Botulinum Toxin

What is Botulinum Toxin and what is it used for?

Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. Injections of botulinum toxin block the nerve signals to the muscle in which it was injected. Without this signal the muscle is unable to contract so it stays relaxed thus smoothing out wrinkles creating a more youthful, fresh look.

Some well known brands are:-

Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin® -also known as Bocouture®

How long does it last?

Generally will last around 3-4 months, although everyone’s body is different and the toxin will dissipate at different rates. Results may last longer on some people than others. Different brands also have different effects on each person.
